Texas officials deny editing Sandra Bland arrest video -- blame irregularities on 'glitches'

Texas officials insist that technical glitches and not deliberate editing are to blame for the irregularities found in the 52-minute dashcam video of the arrest of Sandra Bland, who died in police custody over the weekend of July 10 to July 13.

According to the Associated Press, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesman Tommy Vinger said in a statement on Wednesday morning that glitches in the recording appeared when the DPS loaded the video up to public servers on YouTube.

In the video, Trooper Brian Encinia is seen angrily ordering Bland out of the car and threatening to use his Taser on her, saying, "I will light you up!"

The confrontation took place Friday, July 10 when Bland allegedly failed to signal a lane change and was pulled over. She was violently arrested and on Monday morning, she was found dead in her cell, reportedly by hanging.

Filmmaker and Selma director Ava DuVernay was among the first people to point out the audio drop-outs, overlaps and breaks in continuity on the dashcam video.

Vinger said that FBI agents have inspected the video and the camera that was used to record it. He said that the entire encounter between Bland and Encinia was recorded and uploaded, including a phone conversation between Encinia and his sergeant.

Part of the phone conversation was affected by the "glitches," but Vinger said that the department intends to re-post the video in its entirety.
