'Spare me': Fox News host stumbles as guest lays bare GOP record to 'rig the rules'

Texas state Rep. James Talarico, a Democrat, clobbered Fox News host Will Cain on Tuesday while debating the Republican effort to redraw the congressional district lines ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Cain tried to claim that Democrats were just as guilty of trying to rig elections by drawing shady lines in places like Maryland. But Talarico wasn't having it.

"Again, I've condemned all gerrymandering across the country and, in fact, when Democrats had a majority in Congress, they voted to ban gerrymandering in every state — red states and blue states," Talarico recalled. "Do you know how many Republican members joined them in that effort?"

He paused as Cain suddenly realized he had stopped talking.

"I'm sorry. Which state did you refer to?" Cain fumbled.

"I'm asking, do you know how many Republicans joined Democrats in the U.S. Congress to ban gerrymandering? All the Democrats voted for it," Talarico continued. "Zero Republicans voted for it."

"It's an odd — it's an odd," Cain tried to talk over Talarico.

"So, spare me the two-sided rhetoric," the lawmaker said.

Cain looked off to his right, cocking his head and shrugging.

"It's clearly one side that is trying to rig the rules in the middle of the game," Talarico said.

Cain laughed sarcastically, "No."

"This is like two football teams coming out of the locker room at half-time and the team that is ahead says that they want to change the rules to the second half to win the game," the lawmaker continued. "All of us would be throwing food at the TV if that happened. We don't accept cheating in our politics. We don't accept cheating in our relationship. We shouldn't accept cheating in our elections."

Cain fumbled and said he "appreciated whatever you just referred to about Democrat congressmen. I'm unfamiliar with..."
