'That is just so not okay': CNN's Baldwin flabbergasted by Trump's 'Pocahontas' slur

After watching footage of President Donald Trump slurring Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at a Native American event, CNN's Brooke Baldwin was practically speechless.

During the Monday afternoon ceremony honoring the Code Talkers of World War II, Trump told the gathered Native Americans, "I just want to thank you because you’re very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here, although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago, they call her Pocahontas. But you know what, I like you.”

After reading the quote on-air while sharing the video, Baldwin seemed stunned.

"He's made cracks about the Democratic senator of Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren, 'Pocahontas,' a couple of different times. apparently, he makes the crack again," Baldwin explained. "Keep in mind who is in the room: Native Americans. And the color that we have from within the room was that there was just a long, awkward silence."

Addressing her guest, U.S. News and World Report's David Catanese, Baldwin said, "Come join me in the conversation here."

"I mean, I don't even -- how do you -- what do you say?" she continued. "That is just so not okay."

"Well, it sort of brought me back to when he was campaigning for president," Catanese recalled. "I remember he did an event in North Dakota, which has a large Native American population and someone screamed out that's really offensive and he sort of, you know, moved on and put out his hand and he said, 'oh, sorry if I'm offending you."

"Look, this is Trump being Trump, but to say it in a room with Native Americans surrounding? I'll be surprised and I would be curious to hear what their reaction is if any of them in the room next to the president of the United States were offended by that remark," he added.
