'That's abuse': Missouri cop breaks car window with bare arm and pulls unarmed black man out head first

The St. Ann Police Department in Missouri is defending an incident where a plain clothes officer broke a suspect's window and pulled the man out head first.

In a video posted by Lisa Jones Watson on Facebook, an officer can be seen using his forearm to pound the passenger side window. After several attempts, the officer breaks the window and pulls the out the man, who is black. The safety belt can be seen wrapping around the suspect's neck as his is pulled out of the vehicle.

A witness on the scene can be heard yelling, "That's abuse!"

Although it was not immediately clear why the man was arrested, St. Ann police defended the show of force in a statement posted to Facebook.

"Once the vehicle came to a stop, one of the passengers of the car refused to put his hands up, unlock the door, or open the window," the statement said. "Because it was a dangerous situation, with numerous officers involved and people driving by, our officers had to protect themselves and the public by ensuring that no weapons were going to be used."

"At no point was the passenger kicked, punched, or mistreated in any way," the statement added. "At no point was there any abuse on the part of police regardless of what the person driving by, videotaping the incident and screaming that it was 'abuse.'"

There was no indication that a weapon was recovered at the scene.
