'That's not a sincere question!' GOP lawmaker crumbles after CNN host asks why he didn't fund wall last year

Congressional Republicans are now claiming that the situation on the southern U.S. border is a crisis that demands building a wall -- despite the fact that they themselves didn't fund the border wall during the past two years, when they had control of the White House, the House and the Senate.

Appearing on CNN, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) disputed the notion that the Republican Party had any kind of power to fund President Donald Trump's proposed border wall during the two years where they had control of the presidency and both chambers of Congress.

During a discussion on immigration in which Higgins repeatedly said the situation at the border was a "crisis," CNN's Jim Sciutto pointed out that illegal border crossings have declined significantly from where they were in years past and asked Higgins why it has only now become an emergency that requires shutting down the federal government.

"Why didn't the GOP Congress, when it controlled the Senate, the House, and the White House, why wasn't it a crisis last year?" he asked. "Why wasn't there an effort to shut down the government then?"

"Brother, that's not a sincere question!" Higgins objected. "That's like me asking why didn't, when President Obama was president and the Democrats controlled both houses, why didn't they fix DACA? Why didn't they handle Dreamers?"

During Obama's presidency, the Democrats never once shut down the government in order to force Republicans to pass their immigration bills.
