'The worst plot ever': CNN's Berman battles Rep. Jim Jordan over FBI anti-Trump conspiracy in off-the-rails interview

CNN's John Berman on Wednesday went to war with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) over the congressman's public accusation that the FBI conspired against then-candidate Donald Trump last year.

"You say you believe there was a plot in the FBI to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president," Berman asked Jordan. "If that's true, was this not the worst plot ever?"

As Berman noted, then-FBI Director James Comey (who Trump infamously fired after taking office) notoriously re-opened the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server, a move many credit for handing Trump the election.

"Wouldn't that be a lousy way to plot defeating Donald Trump?" the host asked him.

Jordan brought up Peter Strzok, the FBI agent who was reassigned from special Counsel Mueller's probe after text messages revealed anti-Trump sentiments. The GOP rep was particularly fixated on texts Strzok sent saying he considered investigations into Russian collusion an “insurance policy” in the case that Trump was elected.

"We have text messages that show this huge anti-Trump bias [at the FBI] and some that point to intent to actually try to make sure Donald Trump wasn't the president," Jordan claimed. 

"Your concern about FBI bias seems partisan," Berman replied -- and then the congressman went down the rabbit hole, bringing up the infamous "golden showers" dossier, eventually claiming that most of the special counsel's team is "anti-Trump."
