Wall Street Journal insists MSNBC's Rachel Maddow is wrong about them burying story that could hurt Trump

After receiving criticism about their latest scoop on the president from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, The Wall Street Journal fought back.

An article published in The Journal on Wednesday, detailed that President Donald Trump revoked former CIA director John Brennan's security clearance over his connection to special counsel Robert Muller's investigation about Russia interference into the 2016 presidential election.

On her Thursday night show, Maddow claimed the media outlet was trying to "bury" their story.

"In a story that, interestingly, The Wall Street Journal has sort of tried to bury online today ever since they first published," Maddow said. "This is a heck of a scoop The Wall Street Journal has, but they have already taken it off their front page. I don't know why."

The Journal, owned by conservative Rupert Murdoch, has come under scrutiny over their coverage on President Trump in the past. A former editor for The Journal once told staff members to "tone down" a story about the president, per CNN. 

Despite Maddow's statement, The Journal claimed the story ran consistently on their page and social media sites.

"On Thursday’s show, Rachel Maddow wrongly asserted that The Wall Street Journal  'tried to bury online' an article featuring an interview that reporter Peter Nicholas did with President Trump on Wednesday," the statement read. 

"That is not burying a story. Rachel herself credited WSJ for 'a heck of a scoop.' We appreciate the credit, but we’d also appreciate accuracy and fairness," the statement concluded.
