They hate us for our freedoms? Muslim mourner at scene of London attack wears American flag t-shirt

A Muslim man mourning at the scene of a deadly attack in London defied right-wing stereotypes on Monday by wearing an American flag t-shirt.

Early Monday morning, a van plowed through a group of Muslims who were leaving prayers outside a North London mosque. At least one person was left dead and many more were injured. Police are reportedly investigating the incident as a "terrorist attack."

During MSNBC's coverage of the aftermath, one man outside the mosque could be seen proudly wearing an American flag t-shirt.

The gesture undercuts then-candidate Donald Trump's 2016 assertion that "Islam hates us."

"We have to be very vigilant," Trump said at the time. "We have to be very careful. And we can't allow people coming into this country who have this hatred of the United States."
