Trump 'seriously considering' his hush money attorney for deputy attorney general: report

A key legal adviser to President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly in the running to become his next deputy attorney general.

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins reported Wednesday night on her show, "The Source" that Trump is "seriously considering" naming his lead attorney Todd Blanche to serve as the next deputy attorney general.

"Nothing has been finalized or announced," she said.

Blanche's background includes serving as a federal prosecutor and working at several prestigious law firms. He was co-chief of the violent crimes unit in the Southern District of New York and a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, where he represented high-profile clients including Paul Manafort.

He gained notoriety for representing Trump in his criminal hush money trial over payments he was accused of making to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign.

In 2023, Blanche was a registered New York Democrat and a partner at Wall Street’s oldest law firm, according to an April article in the New York Times. He has since switched to become a registered Florida Republican and runs his own firm. His biggest client is Trump, and he moved near Mar-a-Lago.

Blanche would need to be confirmed by the Senate if he is nominated. The report comes after Trump announced earlier in the day he nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for attorney general.

The news also comes less than a week after a report that Chinese hackers reportedly tapped Blanche's cellphone. Officials probing the attack reportedly called the scope of the intrusion "way worse than the public knows."

The FBI told Blanche the hackers obtained voice recordings and texts from his phone, CNN reported at the time.
