Attorney General Todd Blanche just created a new problem for the Trump administration, former Homeland Security staffer Miles Taylor told MS NOW's Nicolle Wallace on Thursday.
Blanche responded to reporters' questions about the election by refusing to rule out a scenario in which the federal government would intervene to stop states from certifying their own elections.
"People who were the election deniers in 2020, people who engaged in helping to foment that insurrection, are now working for the federal government," said Taylor, noting that it was the "goal of those insurrectionists ... to do it from the inside, not run from the outside of the building."
"They've achieved that. They are on the inside," he added.
That being said, Taylor continued, Blanche "probably regrets" telling reporters he would not be willing to commit against intervening against election certification in any circumstance.
"He gave up whatever element of surprise they still had," said Taylor. "You heard it in his words and in his hesitation. All of us have been caught off guard like that before. And he basically conceded that they're looking at multiple U.S. states to sue, either ahead of or during the election ... to frustrate the peaceful transfer of power."
Even if he hadn't said that, though, he added, "There was no surprise here. It's been a slow-moving trainwreck all year. We saw thatthey were trying to lay thatpredicate and say, 'Give us allof your voter data, because wethink that there are noncitizenvoters all over the place. Andif you don't, well, we're goingto say we have no idea howsecure the election is becauseyou never gave us the data.' That's what these lawsuits aregoing to say."
"The Attorney General is goingto find he's running into abuzzsaw of public opposition," said Taylor.
In 2020, when Trump attempted something similar, Taylor continued, "he had close to a 50 percent approval rating. His people were by his side. He's now south of 30 percent. He doesn't have a nation that's going to believe him anymore. And so he's going to lose in the court of public opinion, and he is certain to lose in the court of law."
