'Mental anguish is trying to be pushed' on Trump during trial: Tommy Tuberville

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) on Monday complained about former President Donald Trump having to endure "mental anguish" by having to sit in court.

Speaking to the press outside of the courthouse during a morning break, Tuberville complained about how depressing it all was.

"Here's what I'm seeing too: It is depressing. That courtroom is depressing. This is New York City. An icon of our country. And we got a courtroom that's the most depressing thing I've ever been in," said Tuberville about the nearly 100-year-old building. "Mental anguish is trying to be pushed on the Republican candidate for the president of the United States."

He then seemed to suggest that Trump was being sent into depression by having to spend time in court and listening to an adult film star recount their past sexual encounter.

"But I guess that's to be noticed, but that's what's happenin' in this country. The Republican candidate for president of the United States is going through mental anguish in a courtroom that’s very depressing. Very depressing!"

"A month. He's been here a month," said Tuberville, despite the fact that Monday was only the 16th day of Trump's trial.

Tuberville went on to attack the jury pool in the courthouse.

"I am disappointed in looking at the American — the supposedly American citizens in that courtroom that the D.A. comes in and acts like it's his Super Bowl. And I guess it is. To be noticed. But that's what's happenin' in this country," said Tuberville.

Trump is on trial for 34 felony counts involving the falsification of business records to conceal accusations of an affair from voters. He maintains his innocence and continues to say that he never had an affair with Daniels or former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal.

Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen was on the stand Monday, recalling the work he did for Trump in helping to conceal the affairs.
