Transgender woman pushed onto NYC subway tracks in possible hate crime

Police are seeking a man who pushed a transgender woman onto subway tracks Monday morning in New York City.

The 28-year-old victim was waiting for a southbound train at the Bleecker Street station about 9 a.m. when a man acting erratically confronted her, reported WCBS-TV.

“What are you looking at?” the man said, then ran to a garbage can and grabbed a plastic bottle that he threw at the woman.

Then he pushed the woman onto the subway tracks before fleeing toward some nearby stairs.

A group of bystanders pulled the victim back onto the platform.

She was taken to an area hospital, where she was treated for cuts and bruises.

The train was running late, which may have prevented the woman from suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.

“It’s a roll of the dice -- I mean, there’s crazy people everywhere,” said witness Gil Velasquez, of Jackson Heights.

The suspect was recorded on surveillance camera, and police are investigating the case as a possible hate crime.
