New GOP Senate majority leader again has his 'hands full' with 'Donald Trump 2.0': analyst

A CNN analyst said Thursday that Donald Trump’s controversial cabinet picks that continue to stun Capitol Hill are just another example that the president-elect better be taken “at his word.”

CNN’s Jamie Gangel revealed Republicans' private views about Trump’s still-evolving administration Thursday as news broke he'd offered Robert Kennedy Jr. the role of Health and Human Services secretary.

“This is Donald Trump 2.0," a senior Republican source told Gangle. "It’s a new kind of chaos. But Trump feels emboldened. He simply doesn't care about the rest of the party. It's all about him and we're expected to be loyal. It’s a one-way street.”

The CNN analyst added another Republican source told her it’s not likely that all of Trump’s controversial picks will be rejected.

Gangel said incoming GOP Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) likely has his "hands full" amid the chaos.

“He does not want to look at his phone again today," Gangel said. "It was Matt Gaetz yesterday, and now this.”

“I think it is important to now see how the Republicans in the Senate handle this," Gangel told Tapper. “They cannot claim to have buyer’s remorse. They were all in on this.”

Tapper reminded viewers that during Trump’s first term, the Health and Human Services secretary was former Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), a physician, who the host noted was “a respected Republican member of the House.”

He added that Kennedy is obviously “not a scientist, he is not a doctor, he does not have any degrees in this stuff.”
