President Donald Trump doubled down on his attacks on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) Tuesday night with a second AI-generated video depicting the Democratic Party's House leader in a sombrero — except this time with quartet of Trumps playing mariachi music behind him sporting their own sombreros.
Posted on both his Truth Social and X accounts, the latest deepfake comes just a day after he shared another video generated with artificial intelligence depicting Jeffries in a sombrero standing alongside Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), whose voice was emulated using AI to say disparaging remarks about the Democratic Party.
Trump was widely condemned after sharing his first deepfake video, with critics, including Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), calling it “deeply racist.” Nevertheless, Trump went on to share the second deepfake video a mere 24 hours later, which is an altered video of Jeffries responding to the first deepfake video.
It is an altered clip of Jeffries speaking on MSNBC, where he can be heard calling Trump’s first post “disgusting.” Moments later, a sombrero and handlebar mustache appear on Jeffries’ head, and four Trumps – each sporting their own sombrero – appear behind him with instruments, playing the well-known “Mexican hat dance” song.
Supporters of Trump on X largely praised his attack, though critics pounced on the video as another distraction from the president’s ongoing scandal over his relationship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, new details of which continue to emerge as Democrats and some dissenting Republicans continue to push for the release of files related to the disgraced financier.
“That’s great but still gonna need those Epstein files,” reads a meme shared by X user “Yaman MX,” who frequently posts content critical of Trump.
“Damn, that’s crazy,” reads another meme shared by X user “Gaurav,” who’s amassed nearly 13,000 follower. “Let’s see those Epstein files.”
