President Donald Trump does not hesitate to lash out at people who criticize him, even those who have supported him for years — but he has maintained an eerie silence about one person who is turning on him, CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin told MS NOW on Thursday: Ken Griffin.
Griffin, who heads up the powerful Citadel hedge fund, is a longtime GOP megadonor who has backed Trump in many endeavors, but he is now accusing the president of corruptly enriching himself, his family, and his friends with the power of the White House.
Indeed, Sorkin said, this has been a long time coming.
"You know, the truth isactually, Ken Griffin has beenconsistent," said Sorkin. "He's been one ofthe very few business leadersin America who has spoken outand been at odds with some ofthe things that President Trumphas done or this administrationefforts. He's been public aboutthose things literally from thevery beginning. So this isactually not new."
As a matter of fact, Sorkin continued, Griffin "had an op-ed, by the way, inthe Wall Street Journal just acouple of months ago about whatwas happening with Jay Powell, the head of the Fed, and how hewas not a fan of that. So therehave been times that he hasbeen outspoken."
What's important to remember, added Sorkin, is that "he is not just any, youknow, senior businessperson inthe, in the business community, but a Republican who has beenquite supportive of Republicanshistorically, but has beenwilling to speak his, speak hispiece, if you will. And forwhatever reason, we have notheard the president, you know, slap back at him."
