A Democratic senator excoriated her Republican colleagues during an interview on CNN on Wednesday for failing to rein in President Donald Trump.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) joined CNN's Phil Mattingly on "The Lead" to discuss the war in Iran. Baldwin argued that Trump has broken promises to his voters by starting the war, yet Republicans have been unwilling to hold the president accountable in a meaningful way.
"You're even seeing cracks in the MAGA dam right now with Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly speaking out and saying, 'You promised otherwise. Youpromised lower prices. Youpromised an end to foreignconflicts. And with this war, you're violating both of thosepromises,'" Baldwin said.
The war in Iran has created several issues for the Trump administration. It has pushed energy prices much higher due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which is adding to inflationary pressures at home. At the same time, 13 service members have been killed as part of the war.
"But I asked my Republican colleagues in theSenate, what will it take?" she added. "Willit be a 14th or 15th servicemember dead? Will it be billionsmore spent? Will it be $200 abarrel of oil? What will it takefor you to join us, do your job, and be a check and a balance on this president?"
