The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a motion in court late Monday asking a judge to allow construction on the White House ballroom project to resume, but critics were quick to notice the filing’s striking similarities to one of President Donald Trump’s own social media posts, leaving onlookers dumbfounded.
“Trump’s DOJ just filed what may be the most deranged written Motion ever,” reads a statement published Tuesday from the progressive media company MeidasTouch. “It reads more like a Truth Social post dictated by Trump himself. What an embarrassment.”
In the filing, which Trump shared in full Tuesday morning on his social media platform Truth Social, the DOJ accused the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) – which filed a lawsuit last December to halt the construction of the ballroom – of being “very bad for our country.” The filing also described the NTHP as “FAKE” in all capital letters.
The filing also describes Trump as a “highly successful real estate developer” who “has abilities that others don’t,” and refers to former President Barack Obama by his full name – “Barack Hussein Obama” – a phrasing Trump has often used “as a diss,” and that critics have described as xenophobic.
“Every DOJ lawyer who put their name on this should be ashamed,” reads MeidasTouch’s statement. “And it should be a major scandal that it appears that Donald Trump is the one who actually wrote this. So much for DOJ independence.”
Others, like conservative commentator George Conway, flagged the capitalization used in the filing, and its similarities to how Trump frequently writes.
“Also note the Random and stupid Capitalization of various Words in the Brief,” Conway wrote in a social media post on X Tuesday. “SAD!”
Adam Klasfeld, editor-in-chief of All Rise News, came to a similar conclusion as MeidasTouch.
“This motion is a Truth Social post masquerading as legal argument,” Klasfeld wrote in a
social media post Tuesday on X.
