President Donald Trump took to Truth Social early Friday morning to declare victory over rising prices. Some of his own supporters weren’t having it.
“INFLATION IS WAY DOWN UNDER ‘TRUMP.’ INCOME FOR PEOPLE & COMPANIES IS WAY UP! The Golden Age of America Is Upon Us,” Trump wrote.
The replies quickly filled with pushback from users who have backed the president on the platform.
“I’m a huge supporter but that’s just plain bulls--- lol,” wrote one user whose bio reads, “Just waiting on the Golden Age to actually happen.” The same account recently reshared a post cheering Trump’s push to remove Democrat Mary Peltola from Alaska’s Senate ballot over what it called the “Dems’ Alaska Senate election fraud scheme.”
“Then for the love of GOD BRING OUR PRICES DOWN!!!!” wrote another, an account that has shared memes attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.). “We are using credit cards to SURVIVE!!! Gas and groceries are insanely expensive!!!!! Utilities are too!!!!”
A user who earlier this year urged Trump to replace Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) “with someone trustworthy” offered a longer rebuttal, and a warning.
“I’m sorry, but it is not.. every day. Americans are struggling to pay their bills and groceries are still three times the amount,” the user wrote. “Most American families are struggling. You cannot ignore that if Republicans lose the election this is why.”
A Truth Social user whose profile banner shows her giving a thumbs-up in a photo, and who has reshared Trump’s own posts, said she’s hurting too.
“I’m not seeing any inflation change in my area. Gas is too high and groceries are unaffordable. My businesses are struggling to stay open. I’m on the edge of giving up,” she wrote.
Another user who has reshared Trump’s push for the SAVE America Act answered with a chart of the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, headlined “Inflation is rising.” According to that report, annual consumer inflation rose from 3.4% in August to 3.7% in September, driven largely by a 9.1% jump in gasoline prices.
“Arkansas is still paying $4.99 for gas,” another user added.
AAA put the national average for a gallon of gas at $4.23 on Thursday, up $1.20 from a year earlier, The Hill reported.
