Trump ‘administration on the verge of a nervous breakdown’ -- and incapable of managing a crisis: CNN panel

On Friday morning, CNN's global affairs analyst Susan Glasser claimed that the turmoil and paranoia in the Trump White House has the administration on the "verge of a nervous breakdown" -- putting the country at risk.

Speaking with hosts John Berman and Alisyn Camerota, Glasser -- who also writes for the New Yorker -- said she is basing her claim on Bob Woodwards expose on the Trump White House and the responses from the president himself.

Addressing the New York Times op-ed from an anonymous senior White House aide that claimed staffers were undercutting Trump to save the country from a crisis, the writer got straight to the point.

"Donald Trump is the crisis," she told the hosts. "There are many, many different manifestations of it, even this op-ed for example."

Adding, "this administration is on the verge of a nervous breakdown," Glasser continued, "We already knew that he has a problem with the truth and that he is a callous person that insults his advisors, who is very difficult, we already knew those things. What we're starting to learn is what are the people surrounding him going to do about it?"

"It is not just a problem of one op-ed," Glasser explained. "There is the constitutional crisis at various moments in the legal investigation. They are all in a crisis, and they have been in one since [inauguration day] Jan. 20."

CNN contributor David Gregory agreed, adding in that a White House rife with paranoia and paralyzing internal conflicts puts the U.S. at risk.

"He [Trump] wants to live in this muck and drama," Gregory interjected. "It is so self-sabotaging. There are things to worry about, of course, but what all of this dysfunction speaks to is what would happen in a real crisis or financial meltdown? What the president wants to do is live in the specter of impeachment."
