Trump antagonizes China in latest ill-advised Twitter rant

President-elect Donald Trump continued his pattern of ill-advised Twitter rants on Sunday with a pair of inflammatory tweets directed at U.S. trade rival China.

TheHill.com reported that Trump wrote, "Did China ask us if it was OK to devalue their currency (making it hard for our companies to compete), heavily tax our products going into their country (the U.S. doesn't tax them) or to build a massive military complex in the middle of the South China Sea? I don't think so!"

It is a tricky time for the Republican president-elect to be antagonizing China. This week he had a phone conversation with Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen, , which has chosen not to antagonize China by conducting positive relation with the province.

Trump's camp now says that Pres. Tsai called to congratulate him on his win in the U.S. Electoral College and that nothing of diplomatic or commercial significance was discussed.

The Guardian reported that Trump's call was preceded by an inquiry by his corporation about the possibility of building a new hotel in Aerotropolis -- a sprawling commercial complex adjacent to Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport.
