President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen has filed to move his lawsuit brought by adult film actress Stormy Daniels from state to federal court.
The New York Times' Maggie Haberman tweeted filings on Friday evening that show Cohen filing for the removal from state to federal court, as well as their motion to bring on lawyer Charles Harder.
As the Times' Jim Rutenberg noted, the motion marks the first time Trump has formally joined the legal battle against the actress he claimed, through his lawyer, to never have had relations with.
Shortly after the revelation of Cohen's removal filing, the Washington Post reported that Cohen has accused Daniels of 20 violations of the non-disclosure agreement she signed to not speak about her alleged relationship with Trump. The president's attorney is seeking $20 million in damages for the violations. In her lawsuit, Daniels is seeking to have the NDA overturned, in part because Trump never signed it.
