Being linked to Trump has now cost his attorneys $150M: report

Donald Trump's attorneys have now been fined or penalized more than $150 million for participating in efforts to help the former president overturn his election loss, and many of them are still unable to pay ruinous legal fees.

Rudy Giuliani was ordered to pay more than $148 million in damages last week for defaming two Georgia election workers, and he had previously been ordered to pay more than $133,000 in legal fees in the case, and other attorneys for the ex-president have problems of their own, reported Forbes.

Attorneys Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro and Jenna Ellis each pleaded guilty in the Fulton County, Georgia, racketeering case for their roles in the 2020 election scheme, and Powell was fined $6,000 plus $2,700 in restitution, while Chesebro and Eliis were each ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.

Trump, Giuliani and attorneys John Eastman, Jeffrey Clark, Ray Smith and Robert Cheeley have also been charged in that case, and most of them were released on $100,000 bond, but Giuliani had to pay $150,000 while Smith and Cheeley had to pay just $50,000.

Powell also faces $152,450 in sanctions in Michigan, where a federal judge penalized her for “a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process” by filing a lawsuit alleging election fraud.

It's not clear how much these pro-Trump attorneys have had to pay for their own legal fees, but Ellis has raised $218,175 in an online, but the webpage for that indicates that's barely enough to cover those costs, and Eastman and Clark have raised $594,185 and $64,277, respectively, toward their respective goals of $750,000 and $500,000.

Giuliani was sued by his former lawyer, Robert Costello, for $1.4 million in unpaid legal fees in 2020-related cases, and he has started a political action committee and solicited Trump’s help in paying his legal bills.
