Trump begged campaign advisors to hide his record of supporting a woman's right to choose

The bombshell upcoming book by legendary investigative journalist Bob Woodward recounts a meeting Donald Trump held with political strategists a full five years before he announced his campaign for the presidency, The Daily Beastreported Saturday.

In early 2010, Trump reportedly met with Steve Bannon, who would go on to serve as the chief executive officer of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Also at the meeting was David Bossie, who would go on to serve as Trump's deputy campaign manager.

At the time, Trump was considering challenging then-President Barack Obama in the 2012 election. Trump ultimately did not run, but did become a prominent proponent of the "birther" conspiracy theory.

Discussing a potential run for office, Bossie listed Trump's contributions to pro-choice candidates as a liability in the Republican Party primary.

"I'm against abortion," Trump claimed.

"Well, you've got a track record," Bossie noted.

“That can be fixed,” Trump argued. “You just tell me how to fix that."

In the same meeting, Trump reportedly referred to himself as a "popularist" before Bannon taught him the word "populist."

Bannon's initial impression of Trump was as “Archie Bunker, but a really focused Archie Bunker.”
