'Trump's fault': Ex-president's Biden attacks expected to backfire during State of Union
March 07, 2024
Trump calls the president "Sleepy Joe" and "Crooked Joe" and has often pantomimed the 81-year-old POTUS having trouble walking and mocked his stutter.
But all of the slander to score political points has served President Joe Biden well.
Political analyst Molly Jong-Fast, interviewing with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, is convinced Trump has buried Joe Biden so deep in a hole that so long as he doesn't trip and fall when he appears at the lectern before Congress on Thursday, he will score a victory.

"We have seen historically that Biden goes out there and again, who knows, I'm not psychic, but he's usually much better than expectations," she said.
Wallace agreed.
"That's true, he always wins the expectations game."
And Jong-Fast pegged it to former President Donald Trump's feverish routine of demeaning his replacement at the White House.
"Part of that's Trump's fault because Trump was always like 'He's sleepy!' 'He's not smart!'"
And rather than crash and burn or cry in a corner, Biden delivers.
"He goes out and people go, 'Wow he's pretty smart!' So I do actually think this is a very good venue for him."
She brought up how the deck was stacked against Biden in 2023 and he met the moment.
"Last year he killed it when the Republicans started heckling him and he was back-and-forth with them," said Jong-Fast. "And he seemed really sharp."
Contrary to last year, Speaker Mike Johnson has made clear in a closed-door GOP conference meeting on Wednesday that members must maintain "decorum" towards President Biden.
He told members, "we should be professional, we should maintain a high standard of decorum," said Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.).
Jong-Fast believes that Johnson's preemptive measure to prevent slings and arrows coming out of the gallery "would give [Biden] an opportunity."
She also noted that Biden is less gaffe-prone.
"Some people don't believe it, but I actually think because he's so careful now, it's a much better Biden because he's very sort of measured, and he's not as off-the-cuff as he was historically."
"So but he's got to sell the accomplishments. Look, you know, policy is good politics. and he's had good policy."
