Donald Trump has done nothing but give N.Y. judge reasons to gag him: legal expert

District Attorney Alvin Bragg is learning how to prosecute Donald Trump on criminal charges by watching successful civil cases that have slammed the former president with hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties, legal experts said Monday.

Former federal prosecutors Andrew Weissmann and Joyce Vance appeared on Lawrence O'Donnell's MSNBC show Monday night to discuss the looming hush money case in New York City.

"They've learned from Judge Chutkan and the D.C. Circuit case," Andrew Weissmann said Monday. "They've learned they don't want to put up with any nonsense."

Bragg — who accuses Trump of falsifying business records to hide payments made to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election — has already demanded a gag order barring Trump from speaking out against witnesses.

Vance called Bragg's request to Judge Juan Merchan a masterpiece.

"Alvin Bragg did something smart here," Vance argued, noting his careful tracking of previous gag order rulings. "When you're a judge, you want a similar ruling to hang your hat on."

Vance argued Bragg was also helped by the former president.

"Donald Trump has done nothing but give Judge Merchan reasons to accept this order," she said.
