'Trump calls Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas': Cuomo foils RNC chair who accuses Cory Booker of 'mansplaining'

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel on Thursday said that Democrats had a double standard on "mansplaining" because they treated Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen more aggressively than Republicans treat Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who President Donald Trump refers to as "Pocahontas."

During an interview on CNN, host Chris Cuomo noted that McDaniel had accused Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) of "mansplaining" because he called out Secretary Nielsen's "silence" about whether Trump referred to African nations as "shithole" countries.

"I just think it would have been covered differently if it were a Republican senator yelling or lecturing a woman coming before the Senate," McDaniel said. "He was disrespectful and he did mansplain to her and she's an intelligent woman and she's the secretary of homeland security and she deserved an opportunity to answer."

"She was there for a long time," Cuomo pointed out. "And she was answering, she just kept saying the same things."

"In this age of recognizing women as equal," the CNN host continued, "why would he have to treat Nielsen differently. She's so strong, she so confident, she so empowered. Why would he have to talk to her differently than he would to a man?"

"He was disrespectful to her as the secretary of homeland security and he was mansplaining," McDaniel insisted.

"They talk to people like that all the time," Cuomo observed.

"There's hypocrisy as to how Elizabeth Warren is treated," McDaniel opined.

"The president calls her Pocahontas," Cuomo interrupted.

"Yeah, but when [Republicans] interrupted Elizabeth Warren, the media goes crazy," the GOP chairwoman replied.

"When? When has that ever happened?" Cuomo asked. "Even the Pocahontas thing gets laughs these days and that's about as offensive as you see in political mainstream dialog. The president gets away with that on the regular."
