The Trump administration's latest AI-generated post attacking Canada became a target for mockery.
President Donald Trump is increasingly threatening to call Lake Ontario "Lake America" — similar to his declaration renaming the Gulf of Mexico when he first took office. The threat came in response to sharp attacks from conservative Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has threatened to retaliate against the latest round of tariffs by shutting off the transmission of Canadian electricity to neighboring midterm battleground states like Maine.
On Tuesday, the official White House X account posted an AI-generated image of the United States made out of LEGO bricks, with "Lake America" displayed prominently above the Great Lakes.
But a number of political observers noted the map was riddled with errors, like New Jersey being mislabeled as Delaware and Delaware being mislabeled as Maryland. Perhaps most egregiously, Washington, D.C. was in completely the wrong spot, being depicted as an enclave in eastern North Carolina.
"Looks great guys," wrote Everytown communications director Max Steele, zooming in on the bizarrely wrong D.C.
"How much drinking water did you idiots use up just to put DC and NJ in the wrong places?" wrote the official account for the Lincoln Project — a reference to the ongoing debate over how much water AI data centers use as coolant.
"This is getting boring," wrote former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a longtime critic of Trump. "If you're a staffer reading this, trust me, leave now or you won't be able to find a job again."
