Judge Cannon's new ruling reveals she isn't 'worried' about law enforcement safety: expert

Judge Aileen Cannon's Sunday ruling in Donald Trump's Espionage Act over allegedly unlawful retention of classified documents is very revealing, according to MSNBC's Katie Phang.

Phang, a legal expert and host for the news network, reported this weekend that Cannon issued a new decision in the documents case, brought against Trump by Special Counsel Jack Smith in Florida. The filing was a response to Smith's second request to amend the conditions of release for Trump, based on the ex-president's false statements that the government intended to kill him when it raided Mar-a-Lago.

The first request by Smith was functionally identical, but was rejected by Cannon based on procedural grounds. That left Smith open to fix the issue and file an amended request, which he did.

Instead of answering the request, Cannon scheduled briefing on the matter. Specifically, according to Phang, the judge issued "a paperless Order directing Trump to file a Response to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Motion to Modify Bond Conditions on or before June 14."

"A Reply, if any, from Smith will be due on or before June 21st," Phang added.

Then, the host went on to interpret what the filing really means.

"Clearly, Judge Cannon doesn’t seem to be worried about the safety of the law enforcement officers that have targets on their backs courtesy of Donald Trump’s spreading of lies about the MAL search warrant," she wrote on Sunday.

A prominent MAGA follower wrote in response:

"The only one spreading a lie is you. The FBI was given authorization to use deadly force, that's a fact."

Phang then hit back.

"No, YOU are the liar. The language at issue is STANDARD in these search warrants so Special Counsel Jack Smith did nothing wrong," the analyst said. "If you want to be honest, then you should call out Trump for his false claims like 'Biden’s DOJ was authorized to shoot me!' and 'Joe Biden was locked & loaded and ready to take out me & put my family in danger.' Trump wasn’t even at MAL when the warrant was executed. Try exercising basic reading skills before posting."
