Trump paid $50K in legal fees for key co-defendant who turned against him: report

Former President Donald Trump blew $50,000 in campaign cash on legal fees for an election racketeering case co-defendant who is now expected to testify against him, according to a new report.

The law firm representing Kenneth Chesebro received payment from Trump’s Save America PAC on Sept. 22, the month before its client pleaded guilty to a felony conspiracy charge in the Georgia RICO case, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday.

Chesebro, Trump’s former attorney, was accused of forming the plan to overturn Trump’s 2020 presidential election defeat in Georgia.

The cash is just a drop in the $50 million bucket of campaign funds Trump has reportedly spent on legal fees linked to the four criminal cases he faces in 2024.

Chesebro’s plea deal — with includes five years’ probation and a $5,000 fine — mandates he testify and provide evidence in the Georgia election case, ABC News reported at the time it was made.

On the heels of the plea deal, former federal prosecutor Dennis Aftergut called it “a significant blow” to Trump’s defense in a Los Angeles Times op-ed.

“Chesebro’s testimony is incredibly valuable,” Aftergut argued. “[This] agreement to provide evidence against other defendants is a significant blow to Trump.”

Chesebro's attorney Scott Grubman declined the Journal’s request for comment on the “legal consulting” fee.
