Trump chose Mulvaney for chief of staff because he won't tell him what to do and he uses colorful charts to explain things: report

According to a listing of factors that led Donald Trump to pick budget chief Mick Mulvaney as his -- for now -- "acting chief of staff," Axios reports that the president has an agreement with the South Carolina Republican to let him do as he wants and that he likes how Mulvaney explains complex issues to him.

As Axios put it, "White House insiders expect Mulvaney to get the permanent gig," before adding, "But Trump keeps control and doesn't fully empower his guy, reminding Mulvaney who the real chief of staff is: No funny business like General John Kelly tried to pull, restricting enablers' access to POTUS."

The report states that other candidates for the job balked at the restrictions , explaining: "They would have insisted on changes Trump doesn't want to make."

Axios also pointed to a telling tidbit from the Washington Post that may indicate why Trump found Mulvaney to be the right guy for the job.

According to the Post, Mulvaney understands Trump's desire to have complex subjects simplified.

"Mulvaney has an easy rapport with Trump, often taking large charts and colorful graphics into the Oval Office to explain fiscal policy, administration officials said," the Post relayed.
