'A bruising one for Trump': Legal expert highlights ex-president's court losses this week

Donald Trump has seen a couple of small legal victories this week, but overall it "was a bruising one for Trump in court," a former prosecutor said on Friday evening.

Former federal prosecutor Harry Litman, who recently explained how the former president's latest motion seeking to dismiss his federal elections case may have been directed at conservative Supreme Court justices, appeared on MSNBC's The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle. He was asked about the small victory Trump had in pausing a ruling in his civil fraud case in New York.

"What happened today is his lawyer went up to the next level court and argued successfully. After you do this you cannot unscramble the eggs and let's just put this part on hold. And the judge agreed to put it on hold," Litman said.

However, according to Litman, the Attorney General of New York said they were going to do that anyway.

"This week was a bruising one for Trump in court, culminating with a former comptroller, basically having to fess up to say he helped Allen Weisselberg, who testifies next, commit fraud, and I would argue, we've been waiting. I think this fraud trial is one of the real things, meaning this has been the first week of the rest of Donald Trump's life."

Litman continued:

"He is now in a trial that could really damage him. Everything but take away his liberty, and we know he cares about it. So it's now, actually, begun. And there's four others on the horizon. All in all, rough week for him. You're right, at the end, he doesn't have to face immediately the unwinding of his LLCs."

Trump also saw a loss on Friday when Judge Chutkan denied his delay attempts in the DC elections case. She did so with a "hint of snark."
