Trump lawyer's 'unbelievably harmful' notes could sink his client: MSNBC legal analyst

MSNBC legal analyst Danny Cevallos this week said that former President Donald Trump should pray that his attorneys are successful in blocking special counsel Jack Smith from using his own lawyers' notes against him.

During an appearance on the network, Cevallos was asked what he made of the notes taken by attorney Evan Corcoran, who allegedly said that Trump encouraged him to deceive the federal government about what documents he possessed or even to destroy documents altogether.

"They're unbelievably harmful," he said of the notes. "It's never something that's happened in a case of mine. It's something that I've only rarely heard of, mostly in theory. But the idea that the government was able to pierce the attorney-client privilege and obtain this information. And if it's admissible, it could be devastating."

Cevallos then speculated on reasons why Corcoran's notes might not be admissible, such as claims that his recollections of things Trump directly told him were "hearsay."

He acknowledged, however, that he was simply "pulling at strings" and wasn't sure such an effort would be successful.

"Some of [defense attorneys'] defenses are born of creativity, they're also born of desperation," he said. "You try anything you can."
