The chances are "slim to none" that former President Donald Trump can convince the judge overseeing his $83.3 defamation case that he doesn't plan "to stiff" E. Jean Carroll, a former federal prosecutor has said.
Andrew Weissmann made Lawrence O'Donnell burst into laughter on air Monday night as the pair discussed Trump's efforts to stay the ruling in Carroll's successful federal lawsuit, recently concluded in New York City.
"There are many reasons to be nice to your judge, including the fact that someday might be asking something from that judge," O'Donnell suggested. "Like, hey, instead of the $91 million, can I give you $24 million?"
O'Donnell pointed out that Trump frequently insulted Judge Lewis Kaplan, and asked Weissmann what effect that would have as Kaplan pondered Trump's request.

"Judge Kaplan is an adult, the insult itself would not make a difference," Weissmann said. He then took a beat. "I mean, they can't help." At this point, O'Donnell burst out laughing and Weissmann carried on.
"If he thought it was meritorious, he would look past that," Weissmann said. But according to the former federal prosecutor, that's a big if.
"You have somebody here who has not been forthcoming about his financial records and has given no reason to think that he would not stiff E. Jean Carroll," Weissmann said.
"I think that the odds of this being granted or somewhere between a slim and none."
