Trump asks judge to delay his $83.3 million payout to E. Jean Carroll
Former President Donald Trump is asking New York Judge Lewis Kaplan for more time before he has to pay up the $83.3 million civil judgment to columnist E. Jean Carroll.
"Trump wants a stay of the execution of judgment in Carroll until after resolution of his post-trial motions," reported Politico legal analyst Erica Orden. "In other words, he is asking Judge Kaplan to let him hold off on paying the $83.3M judgment until after his post-trial motions are decided."
Carroll, a writer, alleges that the former president raped her in a Manhattan department store in the late 1990s, although she doesn't recall the exact date. Trump has responded by saying that he doesn't know who Carroll is and that she is fabricating the accusation in order to sell books.

This claim formed the crux of Carroll's defamation litigation against Trump, as she says that this false claim caused reputational injury and cost her work opportunities. A previous jury found Trump liable for $5 million for sexual abuse and defamation; the more recent jury awarded the much larger judgment.
Despite having had the claims ruled defamatory, Trump continued to repeat them over and over again, including at a CNN town hall last year where he led a mostly-Republican audience in laughter at Carroll.
All of this comes on top of Trump facing a separate $350 million judgment, plus interest, for civil fraud in a case successfully litigated by New York Attorney General Letitia James. In that case, Judge Arthur Engoron found that Trump and his two adult sons, with the assistance of their longtime chief accountant Allen Weisselberg, systematically lied about the values of Trump Organization properties in order to manipulate tax liabilities and loan conditions.
Trump has vowed to appeal all of the aforementioned litigation, maintaining he has done nothing wrong in any of these cases.
