Trump Department of Energy official sent racist and sexist tweets -- called Obama 'Kenyan creampuff'

William Bradford, President Donald Trump nominee to head the Energy Department's Department of Indian Energy was a voluble Twitter user prior to his appointment, using off-color language to lob a number of racist, sexist right-wing tweets at former President Barack Obama and others.

The Washington Post said Friday that Bradford called Obama a "Kenyan creampuff," an extension of the right-wing trope that Obama -- the first black president, a Constitutional scholar and the first Editor-in-Chief of color to helm the Harvard Law Review -- is an intellectual lightweight who coasted to his presidency as an "Affirmative Action hire."

Bradford also called Obama "the Tehran candidate" and asked if a "military coup" would be necessary to remove him from office. He bashed Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly when she sparred with then-candidate Donald Trump -- calling her “MegOBgyn Kelly" -- and defended the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Bradford -- whose new job gives him jurisdiction over the Native American and Alaskan energy projects -- responded to criticism of his now-deleted Twitter account by assuring the Post that he is "a minority" himself.

“As a minority and member of the Jewish faith, I sincerely apologize for my disrespectful and offensive comments,” he said via email. “These comments are inexcusable and I do not stand by them. Now, as a public servant, I hold myself to a higher standard, and I will work every day to better the lives of all Americans.”

Jezebel.com noted that Bradford appears to stir conflict wherever he goes, given that his "job history is filled with controversy and a string of resignations under contentious circumstances."

He was forced to resign from a position at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point after authoring a wildly anti-Muslim paper in 2015. In it, he urged the U.S. to "destroy Muslim holy sites "even if it means great destruction, innumerable enemy casualties, and civilian collateral damage.”
