'How dictatorships are born': Trump releases ominous memo after Colorado ruling

Former President Donald Trump shared an ominous message to his supporters Wednesday after a Colorado court struck him off that state’s ballot: “This is how dictatorships are born.”

In a fundraising message sent to his supporters, Trump complained about the decision and urged his fans to make a contribution to help him fight the ruling.

The court on Tuesday ruled that Trump was involved in an insurrection on January 6, 2020 and, therefore, his name can’t appear on the state’s presidential ballot next year. It followed legal action by the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which challenged Trump's eligibility under the 14th Amendment's ban on insurrections from holding elected office.

“The Soros-funded Democrats behind this vicious lawsuit will immediately use the ruling to challenge us in the remaining 49 states,” the memo, which had a headline saying it had been prepared by Trump personally, read. “Crooked Joe and the Democrats know they can’t beat us at the ballot box, so their new plan is to nullify every single 'Trump ballot'' in the nation to keep Biden in the White House."

He then went into a description of what was happening that painted President Joe Biden as being the authoritarian leader many have worried that Trump aims to be. Just days ago, Trump promised to be a "day one" dictator if he becomes president and he has also been using passages straight out of Adolf Hitler's autobiography to attack immigrants.

“A ruling party is attempting to amass total control over America by rigging the election against its leading opponent who happens to be a political outsider committed to defending the needs and interests of hardworking Americans,” he wrote. “This is how dictatorships are born.”

He concluded his message with a guilt trip aimed at people who don’t plan to contribute to his campaign.

“If you’re doing poorly due to the very corrupt Democrats who would rather try and eliminate my name from the ballot than actually lift a finger to help our country, then please do not donate at this time. I mean it!”
