'What the hell?' Legal experts flummoxed by this week's Aileen Cannon maneuvers

Donald Trump's alleged co-conspirator, Walt Nauta had a hearing on Thursday where he alleged "selective" and "vindictive" prosecution from "Joe Biden's Justice Department."

While Nauta's own lawyer acknowledged that there is no real "selective" and "vindictive" prosecution, the hearing presented the opportunity for more commentary from Judge Aileen Cannon that gives further indications about how the trial may unfold.

Legal analysts are lining up to trash Cannon after yet another hearing littered with bias.

Speaking about the hearing, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner cited a CNN report that claimed, "The afternoon series of arguments prompted the judge to wonder if the legal nuances of the case may be too difficult for jurors to understand."

A heated argument then unfolded.

"What the hell does that mean?" Kirschner asked. "The prosecutors brought a case against Donald Trump, and a federal judge says, 'I just wonder if the jury is capable of even deciding this case — what with all the nuance.'"

He explained that not only is it not the kind of language generally heard from judges, but he's personally never heard anything like it in the 30 years he prosecuted cases.

Kirschner has practiced in federal and state courts, trial and appellate courts, as well as military courts.

"I think the fact that she’s scheduling hearings, multiple hearings, sort of one or two motions at a time, is compelling evidence of that. Most federal judges would have long ago ruled on all the pending motions," said former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb. "And frankly, this is a case that should’ve started trial yesterday or two days ago when the original trial date was set."

Cobb, who is now a Trump critic, told CNN that Cannon is riddled with "perceived bias" and "incompetence."

"Judge Cannon has no business presiding over this case," Kirschner agreed.
