Trump hurls condemned 'slur' at Elizabeth Warren during her emotional DNC speech
August 22, 2024
Former President Donald Trump lashed out in an angry Truth Social post Thursday as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) addressed a DNC arena packed with thousands of Vice President Kamala Harris' supporters.
Trump revisited his controversial nickname for Warren — which critics have said amounts to a racial slur — as he denigrated her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
"Pocahontas is now speaking at the DNC," Trump wrote. "She used her fake Indian heritage to scam the system....It worked until she got caught. 10024th Indian, remember?"
Trump's attacks target Warren's citing "family stories" in her claim to Native American ancestry, of which she formally notified University of Pennsylvania and Harvard law schools during her time as a professor at the Ivy League universities.
The National Congress of American Indians, the largest umbrella group for Native American tribes, spoke out against Trump when he used this nickname during an honorary event for Native American veterans at the White House in 2017, NBC News reported at the time.

"We regret that the president’s use of the name Pocahontas as a slur to insult a political adversary,” said NCAI President Jefferson Keel, a Vietnam combat veteran, at the time.
On Thursday, Warren wept as she mounted the stage at the United Center arena in Chicago Thursday night and was met with thunderous applause.
She did not mince words when it came to condemning Trump and his running mate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who has faced much mockery over a false rumor regarding a common piece of living room furniture.
"Trust Donald Trump and J.D. Vance to look out for your families?" Warren asked. "Shoot...I wouldn't trust them to move my couch."
