MS NOW host Jen Psaki says President Donald Trump's rally in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday shows his support is slipping, even in one of the most Republican states in the country.
"Even in ruby red Alabama, enthusiasm for Trump and his gimmick seems to be waning," Psaki said on "The Briefing with Jen Psaki" as the show aired footage from inside the venue. "Here was the scene from inside the venue at Trump's big Alabama rally tonight. Trump couldn't even fill half the seats in the arena."
She compared the turnout with Trump's visit to the same city early in his first presidential run.
"That venue holds 10,000 people," Psaki said. "And when Trump kicked off his presidential campaign in 2015, he was able to fill an arena three times that size in the exact same city."
"It's like a visual representation of his political decline," she added.
The segment ran under the on-screen banner "RALLY IN TRUMP STRONGHOLD FAILS TO FILL SEATS." Former GOP Rep. Barbara Comstock of Virginia reposted the clip on X.
Politico first reported last week that Trump planned the Mobile rally. Critics questioned why he would campaign in such a safe state with control of Congress at stake. Democratic strategist Ameshia Cross called the plan "straitjacket crazy" on MS NOW. Comstock further compared it to Republicans trying to "make the patient comfortable."
Trump defended the trip on Thursday.
"I'm going because you have to thank these states that are with you a thousand percent," he told reporters.
