Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said that Democrats have been asking for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files for years — and that President Donald Trump should want to clear his own name.
Swalwell complained that Republicans pretend that they want to see the files, but in a vote on Tuesday they blocked a measure that would have ordered the Justice Department to release the information, which many believe will link powerful people with the pedophile.
"Talk is cheap," said Swalwell.
"But most Americans — and this is Democrats and Republicans want to see these files," he continued. "But let me take another approach, because [writer] Michael Wolff, who has spent a lot of time with Donald Trump and a lot of time with Jeffrey Epstein, has reported that the two were very close. And Donald Trump has acknowledged that he and Jeffrey Epstein were very close.
"He's called him a good guy. Wolff has reported that at one point, Trump had topless, underage girls sitting on his lap. If you're Donald Trump, you deserve — if that is not true — to be clear, that allegation should be cleared."
MSNBC host Chris Jansing jumped in quickly, saying that the network doesn't "have independent reporting on that" and cannot confirm it.
