Donald Trump's own fans are turning on him and Elon Musk after the two publicly departed on the issue of the president's so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill."
After Musk lashed out on his X platform, calling the bill "disgusting" and pointing out that it "adds trillions to the national debt," Trump sought to remind his fans about a nice thing Musk once said about him. So Trump took to his own social media site, Truth Social, and reposted a comment in which Musk had thanked Trump for "the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending."
Some of Trump's own followers, however, weren't buying it.
A user identified as @phantomthief123, who often makes pro-Trump posts and demeans Kamala Harris on Truth Social, wrote, "Druggy Elon who should be DEPORTED is a TRAITOR TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA for not supporting your ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL, SIR!!"
"He called it 'DISGUSTING' and said it 'ADDS TRILLIONS TO THE NATIONAL DEBT!' There’s no way he’s right!!" they wrote. "His FAKE NUMBERS and 'FACTS' are WRONG!!!!! 😡😡😡🤬🤬😡🤬."
User @jonmcconnell, a "Proud ReTrumplican," said, "I don’t know if it’s a strategy of Trump and Musk’s or what, but even if Elon is disgruntled with the BBB, it would be SO INAPPROPRIATE to act one way all along, and then so publicly try to be a ‘SPOILER’ of a major agenda of a President," they wrote. "Think of it, he spends Months, & Millions, positioning himself as a significant pillar of the MAGA Movement…He becomes adored by MAGA people and demonized by the left, and overnight decides to use this very STATURE, to pivot and stick a knife in the back of MAGA. This whole thing is bigger than Elon, and he knows it."
A user who has defended Trump and his administration, @saltyindepent78, wrote that they are simply "losing faith in this presidency."
Pro-Trump Cody Mello concocted a conspiracy theory that Trump put forth the bill so it would fail.
"It’s becoming increasingly clear that this OBBB bill was never meant to succeed. From the start, Trump has been in control of the broader political narrative, and this appears to be a calculated move to expose the Republican Party for what it has become—just another part of the corrupt establishment. He’s already dismantled the Democratic Party’s credibility; now he’s turning the spotlight inward, forcing the GOP to reveal its own compromises and failures," the user wrote.
Pro-Trump USJAY45 posed a question to the president:
"What about Elon saying that every politician responsible for the big beautiful bill should be taken out."
Another MAGA account, @Skvarano, asked, "Why create DOGE if your gonna add millions to national debt in big beautiful bill??"
