Trump's $250M civil fraud trial will stretch into next year: report

Judge Arthur Engoron wants to issue a ruling in former President Donald Trump’s fraud case in January, just a few weeks after arguments in the lengthy civil court trial conclude, according to a new report.

Engoron announced Thursday that closing arguments have been set for Jan. 11 in New York City and that his ruling will come “a few weeks after,” according to ABC News.

"I would hope this [January],” Engoron reportedly said. “But no guarantees.”

Legal teams for the Trump Organization and the New York Attorney General’s office have a Jan. 5 deadline to file briefs, according to the report.

Closing arguments are scheduled between two opposing dates proposed by opposing counsel, the report notes.

While state attorneys initially requested closing arguments take place on Dec. 13, Trump’s attorneys wanted 60 days after submitting filings, ABC reports.

New York Attorney General Letitia James filed the $250 million lawsuit against Trump and his two sons in September 2022. Engoron ruled one year later that Trump was liable for fraud, and the trial to decide damages began on Oct. 2.

Trump is slated to return to the stand on Dec. 11.
