The danger is to the entire courthouse — and Trump's intentions are clear: legal expert
If Donald Trump cared about his impact on the people he attacks, he would have stopped after seeing the 275 pages of single-spaced threats just one staffer in the New York court received.
Speaking to MSNBC about the matter on Sunday, former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance, who co-hosts the "Sisters In Law" podcast, explained that it's actions like these that will ultimately hurt Trump.
"The danger is to the clerk, but it's really to the entire staff of this courthouse because the former president well-knows of the impact his words have," explained Vance. She said that Trump claimed he had no idea that things were so dire, then he would have stopped upon seeing the nearly 300 pages of threats.
"You'd think it would be enough to make Trump stop, and the fact that he hasn't stopped and he has accelerated while the gag order is temporarily lifted for purposes of this appeal really tells you what his intentions are here," Vance continued, calling it "disruptive" for the New York courts and dangerous for all employees.
MSNBC host Alicia Menendez agreed that it was an attack on the clerk and all of those working in the court, but that it is also an attack on the justice system as a whole.
"It's being done to undermine the institution in addition to his own proceedings," Menendez explained.
But that's what some analysts think Trump wants. In June, Trump allies saw his indictment as a "political boost" for him.
Florida pollster and political analyst Fernand Amandi told Menendez Saturday that he thinks Trump wants the gag order because it will present another opportunity to paint himself as a victim in need of help from his supporters.
He's seeking to cause so many problems that the courts will throw the book at him, and then he's able to use it to paint himself as a victim of the system. He can go on to explain this is why he wants to destroy the system as a whole.
Meanwhile, whenever the court says or does anything that could be perceived as against Trump, he fundraises off of it. A gag order will present further opportunities for the perfect grift.
Vance expects the gag order to be upheld and doesn't anticipate the Supreme Court will want to get involved.
