Trump should not be allowed another gag order appeal in fraud trial: NY AG's office

The New York attorney general's office argued that Donald Trump was not entitled to appeal a gag order that prevents him from attacking his fraud trial judge's clerk — along with other court staff.
Attorneys working for attorney general Letitia James filed a motion late Sunday asking the state appeals court to deny Trump's request to take up his case, arguing that the order was necessary to protect the clerk's safety, reported The Messenger.
“The Court was entitled to conclude that the public interest in protecting the safety of Supreme Court’s staff and the integrity of trial proceedings far outweighed petitioners’ minimal interest in levying personal attacks against the court’s staff during trial,” wrote assistant solicitor general Cleland B. Welton II.
Trump also wants to appeal a separate gag order in his election subversion case in Washington, D.C., that prevents him from attacking witnesses, and the New York attorney general's counsel cited a ruling against him in that case to argue against his ability to appeal.

"As the D.C. Circuit recently explained in upholding the bulk of the gag order issued against Mr. Trump in one of his federal criminal proceedings, Mr. Trump’s personally identifying and disparaging attacks on others have frequently led to significant threats and harassment against the targets of his attacks," the filing says.
