'Disgusting': New York Times shamed for calling Trump's Gaza relocation plan 'audacious'

President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again insisted that Palestinians living in Gaza should be forcibly removed from their homes and sent to neighboring Jordan or Egypt.

While many have said that Trump's stated Gaza plan matches with the commonly accepted definition of ethnic cleansing -- that is, "the deportation or forcible displacement of persons belonging to particular ethnic groups" -- reporters at the New York Times decided to describe it in other terms.

Specifically, the Times' original story on Trump's plan described it as "one of the most audacious ideas that any American president has developed in years."

Although the Times later changed the wording of that description from "audacious" to "brazen," that wasn't enough to stop critics from slamming the paper for whitewashing proposed war crimes.

"The way Genghis Khan razed whole cities was so audacious," wrote journalist Helen Kennedy on BlueSky.

"Truly disgusting," commented Zeteo's Mehdi Hassan.

"Audacious crimes against humanity," wrote Deep State Radio's David Rothkopf. "Cool. Cool."

"Audacious. Brazen. THIS ISN'T A NEW YVONNE DE CARLO PICTURE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD," fumed author Benjamin Dreyer.

"Karadzic was audacious too," dryly noted Talking Points Memo's Josh Marshall, in a reference to the Bosnian Serb politician who was found guilty last decade of genocide and crimes against humanity.

"Is is 'audacious' to do ethic cleansing on 1.8 million people?" asked archeologist Sarah Parcak. "Peter Baker invites you to consider the pro-Genocide position."
