President Donald Trump suggested Saturday that he would brush off Georgia’s requests for federal help if Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) wins reelection, then conceded he probably shouldn’t have said so.
Rallying in Georgia, Trump touted Rep. Mike Collins, the GOP Senate nominee he endorsed in June, and gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson. He promised the state would “boom like never, ever before” with the pair in office.
“You know there’s a big difference when a president likes the people representing a state. Like, Collins could call me any time he wants,” Trump said.
He then took aim at Ossoff, whom he has repeatedly mocked as “Pee Wee Herman,” acting out a scene in which an aide tells him the senator is on the line.
“‘Sir, Pee Wee Herman’s on [the phone]’ — ‘tell him I’m not in!’ ‘But he needs money for Georgia!’ ‘I don’t give a damn what he wants!’” Trump said.
“Probably I shouldn’t say that because they’ll say this is not appropriate, but no, it makes a big difference,” he added.
Ossoff, first elected in 2020, faces Collins on Nov. 3 in a race that could help decide control of the Senate.
