The fact that former Donald Trump lawyers Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro were handed no jail deals in return for testifying about Donald Trump's and close associates' attempt to steal the 2020 election should concern the former president deeply.
That is the opinion of former solicitor general Neal Katyal who made the case on MSNBC on Saturday morning that the former president is headed for a world of hurt now that two of his former lawyers have flipped on him
Speaking with host Jonathan Capehart, the legal analyst bluntly stated Trump was on the receiving end of "incredibly bad news" these last two days.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office.
Asked for his reaction to Chesbro's plea deal, Katyal shot back, "I mean set of events, Jonathan, it shows us just how good [Fulton County DA] Fani Willis' is. She was billed to us as a master of Rico, a master of conspiracy law, and she is really showing it here with these two pleas."
"She's basically saying, 'Look I have my eyes on the bigger prize, it is the conviction of the man who orchestrated all of this,' not just the people who worked for him."
'To me, what is most significant about both of these deals is that they are jail deals," he elaborated. "One: Sidney Powell pled guilty to some misdemeanors, and Kenneth Chesebro to a felony, but neither of them are serving time. The only reason you would ever agree to that as the prosecutor is if they're providing evidence against higher-ups. So here, I suspect, this is incredibly bad news for Donald Trump and not news, Jonathan, he can spin by saying oh this is a bunch of left-wing radicals, or whatever. These are his handpicked MAGA Kraken whack-job lawyers."
