Former President Donald Trump's campaign is apparently still suffering from security lapses even though it's been known for months now that individuals believed to be associated with the Iranian government have been hacking its staffers.
Popular Information's Judd Legum on Tuesday reported that he had received hacked materials from Trump's campaign from a pseudonymous person named "Robert," who claimed to have also sent hacked Trump campaign materials to other news organizations.
The contents of the hack were also examined by reporters at Semafor and deemed to have been authentic.
While some of the materials Legum received were duplicates of materials that had been sent to other organizations, this batch included a four-page letter from a Trump attorney to the New York Times that was dated September 15, 2024, which suggests that the campaign was still being hacked as recently as nine days ago.

In contrast to 2016, when emails hacked from Hillary Clinton's campaign by alleged Russian operatives made headlines throughout the campaign season, the mainstream press so far has not published any of the hacked Trump campaign materials, and Legum is similarly saying that he will not publish them.
"I believe that, in some circumstances, the publication of leaked materials can be justified," Legum wrote in justifying his decision. "The Pentagon Papers, for example, were obtained illegally by Daniel Ellsberg, but the public interest in revealing the truth about the Vietnam War outweighed those concerns.
"The internal Trump campaign documents obtained by Popular Information may be embarrassing or problematic to members of the Trump campaign. Some of the documents have news value. But the stolen materials do not provide the public with any fundamental new insight about Trump or his campaign. So, on balance, the relevant factors argue against publication."
