Trump demands 'proper credit' for eliminating ISIS in latest Middle East rant

Former President Donald Trump demanded "proper credit" for the elimination of Islamic State terrorists in a rant posted to his Truth Social platform on Friday.

"Many are using an example of 'just the way ISIS was defeated in Iraq and Syria, HAMAS will likewise be defeated,'" wrote Trump. "Please remember that it was the Trump Administration that defeated ISIS, and quickly, after years of futile attempts by previous administrations!"

"Someday we will be given proper credit for all of the many successes we had. In the meantime, we will do it again in 2024! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump added.

Trump has often claimed credit for the defeat of ISIS. However, regional experts say it's more complicated than that, and that a more accurate description is that Trump concluded a successful war effort handed to him by President Barack Obama, who had already liberated large portions of territory in Iraq and Syria prior to Trump taking the reins.

It was under the Trump administration that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a raid on his compound in northwestern Syria. But experts have suggested that this had little impact on the overall trajectory of the effort to defeat the organization.

The brutal Hamas terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of people in Israel last weekend has led to Israel mobilizing for a large-scale assault on the Gaza strip, with over a million Palestinian civilians believed to live in the evacuation zone.
