Preparing to debate Trump like getting ready to box Muhammad Ali: MAGA operative

Post-debate polls have typically shown that President Donald Trump gets poor marks for his debating skills, with the exception of one earlier this year in which President Joe Biden delivered a debate performance that has been widely panned — and led to him leaving the race for the presidency.

Despite this, Trump's allies are confidently predicting that he will be commanding on Tuesday night against Vice President Kamala Harris.

In an interview with Politico, Trump ally Jason Miller brashly compared the former president to two of the greatest boxers of all time.

"You can’t prepare for President Trump," he said. "There’s just no way to do it. Imagine it’s like a boxer trying to prepare for Floyd Mayweather or Muhammad Ali, you just don’t know what angle they’re going to come at you with.”

However, some Trump allies behind the scenes tell Politico they're worried that Trump will launch into personal attacks on Harris that will further damage his standing with women voters.

"She’s going to try to bait him,” fretted one person described as "close" to Trump. “I mean, the lines are almost predictable, right? So the question is, does he take it or not?”

Karen Finney, a former top aide to Hillary Clinton, told Politico that she believes Harris is well-positioned to pick at Trump's weaknesses.

"He doesn’t do well with strong, smart, powerful women of color," she said. "When he gets his back up, that’s where he goes — the nasty personal attacks."
